Captcha verification that doesn’t block real members
Difficulty, attempts, expiry and channel permissions: tuning the captcha to stop bots without discouraging newcomers.
Badly tuned verification means new members leaving before saying hello. Well tuned, it’s invisible to humans and impassable for bots.
Prepare channels first
Spider gives and removes roles, but your channel permissions decide what everyone sees. The Pending role should only see the verification channel; @everyone should see nothing else; the Verified member role opens the rest.
The right settings
- Standard difficulty for most servers; Strict during an attack.
- 3 to 5 attempts: enough for a typo, not enough to guess.
- A reasonable expiry: give the member time to read the rules.
- Exempt groups if some roles arrive already verified (partners, for example).
A personal puzzle
The panel button opens a Discord Activity with a puzzle generated for that member only. It’s never a shared code: copying it from another account doesn’t work.
Try it on your server
Spider is free to add. Set it up in a few minutes from the dashboard.
